Our Heritage
Story
Working and living on the island involves a significant portion of our work interacting with historic buildings and designated areas.

In 2018, when Leah moved the practice from Chichester, it quickly became apparent that to be exceptional in the field of Conservation, it would require more than just attending a couple of seminars on how to write Heritage Statements.
So in 2019 Leah pursued her lifelong ambition to do Master's in Conservation Architecture at the University of Portsmouth and was awarded a Distinction for her efforts in 2021. This Master's has provided a solid foundation for truly understanding the needs of these treasured assets, as well as how to advise, guide, and approach adaptive reuse projects, including old and new extensions, renovations, as well as restoration and preservation in the residential and commercial sectors.
She is a Fully Accredited member of the IHBC.

Our heritage Services

1
LISTED BUILDING CONSENT
One of the biggest hurdles people face working with heritage assets is the Listed Building Application.
We cannot count the number of clients that come to us with big ideas but are hugely anxious about whether they are achievable or not.

For us, not only do we understand the purpose and intricacies of the Listed Building processes but we also understand the Charters and Policies that are applicable, such as Historic England CPPG and ICOMOS . As a result, from the beginning we are able to advise what dreams may or may not be possible so that we start with realistic expectations.
2
BUILDING CONDITION SURVEYS
We are able to carry out Historical Building Conditions surveys and produce repair schedules for our findings.

A Building condition survey involves us studying all areas of the property from the loft to the floorboards as well as external works. We will assess, diagnose and submit a remedy for repair for all defects that are found along with a maintenance schedule going forward.
3
HERITAGE STATEMENTS
The Heritage Statement, which is mandatory for all Listed Building and Conservation Area applications is the most useful and informative document that we submit with a planning application.

We are fully qualified to write the essential Statements of Significance, understanding their purpose and importance in how the application will be assessed as well as carrying out the right level of research and evidence tailored to each individual project.
Our
Projects
Northwood House, Cowes - Grade II*
In 2023 we were made Northwood House's In-House Architects and have not only carried out an extensive condition survey for the entire site; achieved Listed Building Consent for a big ground floor renovation project but also as importantly have been the lead on the new roof coverings over the West wing, allowing the house to be water tight meaning it can now start it's major internal works.

* Award Winning - Rowland's Farmhouse, Ashey - Grade II
We were approached in 2021 to advise and guide the clients through a large renovation project of a sadly neglected farmhouse and associated buildings. We not only achieved a number of successful Change of Use and Listed Building Consents but we also carried out an extensive condition survey and draw up a schedule for repair In 2024 LMA won RIBA The Martin Pearce Innovation Award for our successful conversion of the 19th duck pond into a swim pond and we also won a Merit in Conservation from the Isle of Wight Conservation Awards.
